The composition is after a drawing by Fragonard now at the Albertina museum in Vienna (inv. 17543).
A painting by Fragonard with the same composition is also at the Portland Art Museum (inv. 54.21), together with its pendant, Boy with a Peep Show (inv. 54.22).
Another autograph version is at the Moscow Museum of Fine Arts (inv. Ж-1132).

Il en existe également un tableau original conservé au Portland Art Museum (inv. 54.21), avec son pendant, Enfant à la curiosité (inv. 54.22).
