An exceptional gilt-bronze mounted Meissen porcelain nine-light chandelier, the shaft and arms modelled by J.J. Kändler, circa 1739/40, and probably mounted in Berlin in the mid-18th Century.


the central porcelain section with parrots from which issue branches terminating in drip-pans and nozzles, above a baluster hexagonal-section lower part with a baldachin above three laughing pagoda figures, each issuing two scrolling branches terminating with birds supporting drip-pans and nozzles, adapted from a candelabrum,pierced for electricity


approx. 83cm. high, 40cm. wide; 2ft.¾in., 1ft. 3¾in.

Probably made for Johann Christian, Graf von Hennicke (1681-1752);
Leopold (1845-1917) and Marie de Rothschild (1862-1937), Gunnersbury Park, Acton;
Removed to Exbury House, Hampshire circa 1920;
Thence by descent in the Rothschild family at Exbury;

where acquired by the present owner.
