A pair of Spanish colonial silver-mounted parcel-gilt mother-of-pearl bureau-cabinets

Vice royalty of Peru, Lima, second half 18th century


with a moulded giltwood cornice above a pair of doors enclosing parquetry veneered interior shelves, the flap to the lower section enclosing six drawers, with three drawers below, one cabinet with the top drawer later re-fitted as secretaire with tooled leather writing surface with compartments with verre eglomise panels by Jean Henau, each on foliate carved giltwood bases, possibly originally with crestings, the carved bases probably first half 20th century


213cm. high, 115cm. wide, 52.5cm. deep; 6ft. 11¾in., 3ft. 9¼in., 1ft. 8¾in.

Acquired by the current owner's mother and thence by descent.
