PROVENANCE:

Presumably the gift of Major Crommelin to J.D. Hooker. Crommelin assisted Hooker in his expedition from Darjeeling to Kangchenjunga and the Tibetan Passes by travelling with Ghurkas, and being supplied with provisions and equipment, and is mentioned in letters by J.D. Hooker to his family.
