FIRST EDITION, 10 original parts, folio (630 x 450mm.), gold printed dedication leaf to King Otto of Greece, tinted lithographed pictorial title and 39 plates by J.B. Kuhn after Peter von Hess, titled in German, French, English and Greek, original wrappers, housed in a later portfolio, lacking second title and leaf of descriptive letterpress, spotted, some wear and tear to wrappers, portfolio worn; sold as a collection of plates not subject to return


A RARE ALBUM OF GREEK HEROISM, and one of the most celebrated collections of illustrations relating to the events of the Greek War of Independence. Peter von Hess (1792-1871) was a German painter, who accompanied Otto of Greece on his 1833 visit to the newly formed Kingdom of Greece.
