The present work is a plaster cast of John Quincy Adams Ward's iconic bronze, The Indian Hunter (lot 305). It is rare to see the plaster maquette accompanying the fully executed bronze, as plasters were often destroyed or did not survive the casting process. It is unique to see the plaster and bronze of The Indian Hunter side by side in this context, which is a testament to the Wolf Family's collecting practices and deep appreciation for American bronzes.
