Jules Deroubaix started in the workshop of Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann in 1926, where he established himself as the Art Deco designer’s favorite ébéniste or cabinetmaker. Over the course of five years, he contributed to the execution of a number of Ruhlmann’s elegant designs, including the present “Cla Cla” reading table which bears his stamp. The table exemplifies his expert craftsmanship, executed in a rich macassar ebony with an adjustable mechanism that allows for multiple positions for reading and display. Another example of the model is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
