An Important Chinese Export 'Hong' Punch Bowl

Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Period, circa 1775

清乾隆 約1775年 粉彩描金廣州十三行景圖大盌


the exterior with an iron-red, grisaille and gold cell diaper ground reserved with two large panels edged in iron-red and gold dragon fretwork and scrolls issuing blossoms, and finely painted with bustling scenes of European and Chinese figures and dogs along the Pearl riverfront, one depicting the buildings and flags of the Danish and French hongs, the other the buildings and flags of the Swedish, British and Dutch hongs, and the sides reserved with similarly bordered smaller panels depicting either a lady, two boys and an ox, or a couple and a child, the interior painted in the center with a cluster of iron-red, rose, purple, blue and green chrysanthemums, and around the rim with an iron-red, gold and grisaille cell diaper border edged with grisaille delineated gold fruiting vines and bamboo
