Fred B. Nadler Antiques, New Jersey (acquired December 5, 1986)
Collection of John T. Dorrance, Jr.
Sotheby's New York, October 20, 1989, lot 408

Wolf Family Collection No. 0984 (acquired from the above on October 20, 1989)

Several services are recorded decorated in orange Fitzhugh with eagles with the shields enclosing initials. The initials BA on the present tureen and cover have been suggested to be those of New York merchant Benjamin Aymar (1791-1876), as noted on a label inside the present tureen, and also in Clement E. Conger and Alexandra Collins, Treasures of State, Fine and Decorative Arts in the Diplomatic Reception Rooms of the U.S. Department of State, New York, 1991, pp. 278-9. A portrait of Aymar is in the collection of The New York Historical Society.
