Reticulated buttons of gold or jade were fashionable during Ming dynasty. A large number of gold buttons of similar design to this group were unearthed from the tombs of Ming Dynasty aristocrats in the Nanjing, compare with some examples illustrated in the Mingchao shoushi guanfu [Jewelleries and Cloths in Ming Dynasty], Beijing, 2000, pp. 212-219.

明代時興以鏤空金玉作紐扣，南京地區明代貴族墓葬出土大量金質紐扣，形制與之類似，見南京博物院編，《明朝首飾冠服》，北京，2000年，頁212-219。
