Very Rare Black and Yellow Grain-Paint Decorated Scroll-Carved Comb-Back Windsor Armchair

Retains a nineteenth century black paint with gilt over red over its apparent original green paint. Rear feet with loss.

Height 42¾ in. by Width 25 in. by Depth 18 in.; Seat Height 13½ in.

This chair represents one of the earliest forms of Windsors made in Philadelphia.  It is built to be very low to the ground with a broad splay to the legs which would increase stability and may have been used for nursing.
