Momoyama period, dated Genki san nen sho gatsu hi  (a day in the 1st month, 1572)


Sugata [configuration]: hira zukuri

Kitae [forging pattern]: mixed itame and mokume hada

Hamon [tempering pattern]: broad suguha

Boshi [tip]: long kaeri

Nakago [tang]: ubu, one mekugi-ana

Habaki [collar]: copper gilt, single clad

In shirasaya [plain wood scabbard]

Koshirae [mount]: the fine lacquer koshirae with a black sabiji ground with intermittent areas of basket weave in red lacquer, the finely carved and hammered menuki of gourds and vine in gold, ribbed tsuka

Nagasa [length from kissaki to machi]: 23.2 cm., 9⅛ in.

Moto-haba [width at the machi]: 2.6 cm., 1 in.


Accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Hozon Token [Sword Especially Worthy of Preserving], no. 121331 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword], dated Heisei 2 (1990).
