The objects in this still life would have likely been collected during Ernst's numerous visits to North African and the Middle East. Depicted is a brass tray with calligraphic, geometric and vegetal designs, a Moroccan vase, an Ottoman Mother-of-pearl inlaid casket, a 'Damascus' pottery tile, a Moroccan Fibulae and belt, an ivory-hilted yataghan and a tambourine.
