Description

Very Fine and Rare Chippendale Carved Mahogany Bedstead

New York

Circa 1765

Height 93 in. by Width 62 in. by Depth 79 in.

With its fluted columns, acanthus carved knees and claw and ball, this bedstead is the pinnacle of an extremely rare form, as most surviving bedsteads have square posts and Marlborough feet. The acanthus carving and bold claw feet of this type are typically found on New York furniture of the period.
