A slightly larger, but otherwise nearly identical example, was sold at Christie's New York, January 24th, 1992, lot 60. Another almost identical example, but with slight differences at the interior rim border, sold in these rooms, January 21st, 2000, lot 173.

Hunting scenes are a well-known and popular subject depicted in Chinese export punch bowls. Most scholars attribute hunting scenes to a set of four engravings after James Seymour (1705-52), titled 'Going out in the Morning', 'Brushing into Cover', 'In Full Chase' and 'The Death'. The present example, however, does not appear to be decorated after the aforementioned prints, and the decoration is most likely taken from another source.
