in mid 18th century style, the laver with chased leaves and flowers and a flying scroll handle, the basin chased with flowers and a scroll border and fluting, both engraved with the Hands of Cohen and the basin with Hebrew blessings, makers mark engraved SP 148 with a lion rampant on both
Height of laver: 17 ¼ in., 44 cm
Length of basin: 19 in., 48 cm
The inscription around the rim of the basin is the text of the liturgy associated with the priestly blessing: “Our God and the God of our fathers, bless us with the tripartite blessing found in the Torah written by Your servant Moses, recited by Aaron and his sons, the priests, Your holy nation, as it says: ‘The Lord bless you and protect you! The Lord deal kindly and graciously with you! The Lord bestow His favor upon you and grant you peace!’ [Num. 6:24-26].”
