with triple-crown top, set with three rows of red stones, silver chased with scenes from the Story of Esther and panels of strapwork between hammered gold bands, matching handle, marked at base SF


Height of case: 17 in., 43 cm

The scroll opens with a panel containing the blessings recited before the ritual reading of the megillah in the synagogue. This is followed by a large miniature depicting Haman leading Mordechai through the streets of Shushan on horseback. The remainder of the megillah is embellished with elaborate scrollwork, scenes from the Purim story, and various motifs, including crowns, animals, birds, and fruits.
