granting Elye de Rouecestre exemption from being called to assizes, juries or recognitions or from being made forester, verderer or other bailiff of the King against his will, in Latin, cursive script, one vellum membrane (85 x 175mm), Boulogne, 18 December 1254, light staining


A ROYAL GRANT BY ENGLAND'S LONGEST-REIGNING MONARCH OF THE MIDDLE AGES. Five similar exemptions from offices are recorded on this date in the patent rolls. The King also made a grant of three halfpennies daily to Elye of Rochester in 1255.
