When Kobe Bryant was drafted into the NBA at 17 years old he did not celebrate with an elaborate draft party. Instead, Bryant reportedly went to the gym. 17 years later, when he tore his achilles, Kobe was not carried off the court by his teammates. With a face displaying agony, he instead hobbled to the free throw line and made both shots, touching nothing but net.  

An embodiment of the competitive spirit, it was Bryant’s ability to attack each game with an unparalleled desire to win that made him one of this generation’s greatest. When Kobe retired in 2016,  he did so as a 5-time NBA champion, a league MVP, a 2-time scoring champion, and a 12-time All-Defensive team selection. A complete player and an ambassador of the game, Bryant was the face of the Los Angeles Lakers and one of the biggest names in the NBA during his 20-year career. 

Upon ending his contract with adidas, Kobe Bryant was unaffiliated with a sneaker brand during his 2002-2003 NBA season. Among the many major brands that were trying to attract Bryant, the Jordan Brand gifted Kobe a pair of Air Jordan 3 and Air Jordan 8 sneakers in Lakers-inspired colorways. In 2016, to commemorate Bryant’s 20-year career in the NBA, the Jordan Brand created replicas of these two classics — making the Air Jordan 3/8 Kobe Pack for friends and family of the brand. 

The Jordan 3 is featured in the signature Lakers colors. The silhouette includes a white leather upper, shades of gold and purple accents, and Jumpman branding the tongue. The pair is completed with black and grey elephant cement overlays.

The Jordan 8, also in a Lakers inspired colorway, features a full leather upper, white leather straps, a purple velcro attachment and purple heel tabs. There is a silver midsole, with a Lakers colorway panel, and a white outsole. 

Both pairs are housed in a special box printed with ‘24’ and ‘23’, representing both Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
