King Farouk: Twenty eight Sèvres blue ground plates, various dates mid-19th century, the decoration possibly outside the factory
Each painted with studies of flowers or fruits, the wells gilt with various motifs and reserved
with a cartouche inscribed with the common name of each specimen, the borders printed in silvering gilt with nautical devices, birds, and branches; various printed, painted and incised marks, some examples signed Ene Tristan. Sèvres (two examples also dated 1861), Bourgeois, Mlle M Bonnet, E Gerbaud, and various monograms

This beautiful set of Sèvres plates were said to come from Abdeen Palace, Cairo, the main residence of Farouk I, king of Egypt and Sudan and a legendary collector. The palace was started by his grandfather Ishma’il Pasha, Khedive of Egypt, and great expanded by his father king Fuad. It was the main seat of government from 1874 until the 1952 Revolution and it is now a museum. Whilst the first floor included the private and state apartments, the ground floor had the palace's garden, and a pharmacy of rare medicines – where the present lot would be – opposite to King Farouk's office.
