A Spanish officer's sword, dated 1851 


with straight blade formed in two stages, the upper portion flattened-hexagonal section and the lower of rectangular section, etched with foliage, ‘Artilla Toledo’ and ‘Ano de 1851’ on the respective faces, gilt-brass hilt cast with scrolls, foliage and trophies-of-arms in low relief, comprising pierced oval shell-guard, short quillon with globular terminal, a pair of pas d’âne, knuckle-guard, ovoid pommel and integral grip decorated en suite, in its brass-mounted scabbard with locket and chape, the former with a button for suspension
