A Regency white marble and scagliola pedestal, early 19th century


of architectural form, with a square moulded white marble top on a tapering square support of faux-verde antico scagliola ending in a simulated black marble base

122.4cm. high; 42cm. by 42cm.; 4ft. ¼in., 1ft. 4 ½in., 1ft. 4 ½in.

Possibly acquired by Robert Berkeley (1713-1804) but more likely his nephew and heir Robert Berkeley (1764-1845)

Since the 19th century this fine pedestal supported a Roman marble portrait bust of Emperor Antoninus Pius until that was sold, Sotheby's, London, 6 December 2022, lot 29.
