Description

U2

Setlist from the War Tour, Aberdeen, Scotland, 27 February 1983

Autograph setlist (295 x 210 mm) in red felt tip, in Bono's hand, on a sheet of plain white paper, original duct tape at head and foot; old horizontal fold, stray spots. [With:] Printed concert ticket for the performance, The Capitol Theatre, Aberdeen, Scotland, 27 February 1983.

In 1982 and 1983 U2 embarked on a large international tour in support of their third album, War, playing shows in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan. Over time, the band began to play progressively larger venues, moving from concert halls to arenas toward the end of the tour as audience demand grew. Their performances were highly praised, and it was this tour which was seen as their breakthrough success in the United States. During performances of "Sunday Bloody Sunday," Bono would wave a white flag on stage, which became emblematic for the band—indeed, so much so that they later tried to distance themselves from the gesture, as they felt it was an image they were repeatedly reduced to.
