Description
The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones. Decca Records, 1964
LP with the original photographic sleeve (catalogue number LK 4605), signed on the rear cover by Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman, with "Printed in England" only on the rear cover, LP with circular groove on the labels, matrix numbers XARL-6271-1A and XARL-3272-6A, with early pressing misprints on the labels (A3 credited to "Hurran, Calvert," A4 titled "Mona," credit to B4 reads "Bozier"); outer sleeve worn and browned but signatures bright, long closed tear across the front cover, split at top and bottom edges and with tape remnants to bottom edge, light ringwear, inner sleeve worn and defective, some abrasions to labels, "A" written in ink on the A-side label.
A signed copy of the Stones' debut album. The front cover, featuring no identifying information other than the photo and the Decca logo, was a highly unusual design for the time. This would be changed upon the record's release in the United States, where "The Rolling Stones" and the tagline "England's Newest Hit Makers" were boldly printed above the portrait; the tagline retroactively became the album's official title. The record is a love letter to the band's R&B inspirations—only three tracks are original compositions, just one of which was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
The present copy, with the matrix numbers XARL-6271-1A and XARL-3272-6A, does not include the shorter version of "Tell Me (You're Coming Back)."
"The ROLLING STONES are more than just a group—they are a way of life."
