Description

Ringo Starr

Ruffled red polka dot shirt, worn by Ringo circa 1968

Long sleeve button up shirt with ruffled collar, rayon, tailor-made with no size or maker indicated; a few loose threads, overall great vintage condition. [With] a Letter of Provenance signed by Alan Herring.

Almost certainly the shirt worn by Ringo on the cover of Let It Be, also seen in The Beatles: Get Back

The letter of provenance reads, in part:

“I worked with two of The Beatles, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, between 1967 and 1969… During George’s absence in India, the Beatles’ office advised me that George might not be returning from India for some time. Ringo, being aware of this, offered me the same position with him instead … From March 1968 until the end of November 1969, I was employed as Ringo’s chauffer and then promoted to the role of Ringo’s personal assistant … Ringo gave me this red spotted ruffled shirt in the Summer of 1968, when he was having a wardrobe sort out at Sunny Heights his home at St. George’s Hill in Weybridge. He was fond of wearing this particular style, colour and pattern of shirt at the time, and was regularly photographed in them.”

PROVENANCE:
