Michael Jackson
Belt worn by Jackson during rehearsals for “This is It”
Custom belt (31 inches in length), overlapping metal brackets fixed to an elastic band, with a gold-painted belt bucket bearing Michael Jackson’s crest. [With] a Letter of Provenance signed by Frank Cascio.
In 2009, Michael Jackson was hard at work preparing for his comeback residency in London, "This Is It." At a press conference announcing the series, he said told the crowd: "This is it. When I say this is it, it really means this is it. This is the final curtain call." His words took on added weight when, on 25 June 2009, he died suddenly at the age of 50. Though he was never able to take the stage in London, his final effort was memorialized in a documentary film later that year,
The letter of provenance which accompanies the lot reads: “The Pop Icon Michael Jackson owned and wore this custom-made belt with Michael’s Crest as the buckle. This belt was the personal property of the Pop Icon Michael Jackson and used during the “This Is It” rehearsals.”
