We are grateful to Prof. Nicola Spinosa for tentatively attributing this work to Aniello Falcone from digital images, on the basis of stylistic similarities to a work probably by the artist in the National Museum of Matera.1 The attribution of latter has been the subject of much debate; it has been ascribed in the past to Antonio de Bellis (b. c. 1616; act. Naples c. 1636–57/8), Matthias Stomer (c. 1600–after 1652) and Hendrick de Somer (1602–c. 1655).2
