Probably Louis Marie de Rohan-Chabot, Duc de Rohan-Chabot (1710–1791), Paris;

By whom anonymously sold, Paris, Joullain, 21 July 1777, lot 18 for 151 livres;

Private collection, Austria.

Probably A.C. Steland, Herman van Swanevelt, Petersberg 2010, text vol., p. 238 (as untraced).

This painting is likely to be the same landscape by Herman van Swanevelt that was included in the Duc de Rohan-Chabot's anonymous sale in Paris in 1777. A Claudian landscape by the artist, with the same dimensions as this painting, was described in the 1777 sale catalogue as 'A magnificent landscape; in the foreground two men and two women, one seated on horseback; they lead a flock of sheep...'.
