dated lower centre: 1475

tempera on lime panel, the reverse with a wax seal with the armorials of the Duke de Berry and those of the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies

unframed: 85.2 x 58.5 cm.; 33½ x 23 in.

framed: 101.5 x 73.8 cm.; 40 x 28¾ in.

Please note this painting is executed on lime panel rather than pine, as previously stated.

Probably Ambrosius Franziskus von Spee (1730–1791), first Count Spee, Schloss Heltorf, Westphalia, by 1787 (recorded in the inventory of paintings of that year, no. Z35a, ‘Ein Christus auf Grab’);

Thence by descent to the present owner.

Probably recorded in the inventory dated 1787 of property belonging to Ambrosius Franziskus von Spee (1730–1791), first Count Spee, in Schloss Heltorf, Westphalia.
