As Sarah Catala kindly pointed out to the present owners, this and the following lot are repetitions of two drawings by Hubert Robert, both dated 1762, now in the Musée de Valence.1  She has suggested an attribution to the architect Pierre-Joseph Antoine, who was in Rome in 1762 and who is known to have copied drawings by Robert while he was there.

1. The drawing corresponding to the present composition is Inv. D.111; see Jean de Cayeux, Les Hubert Robert de la Collection Veyrene au Musée de Valence, Valence 1985, pp. 138-9, cat. 26
