That this charming devotional work was engraved by by the Augsburg printmaker1 Lucas Kilian ( 1579–1637) argues for the painting's execution in that city, where Rottenhammer was permanently based from 1606. Another version of this picture, with an arched top, was formerly recorded in the Hermitage, Saint Petersburg.2
