This painting is a workshop repetition, with minor differences in the background, of a composition known in several versions by Hendrick van Balen. The first, perhaps the prime version, was sold at auction in 2014.1 Another version of this composition is recorded in the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum, Braunschweig, Germany.2
