Portrait of a lady, said to be Isabella van Egmond van der Nijenburg, wearing a black dress with red ribbons and a layered lace collar

charged with the Van Egmond van de Nijenburg family coat-of-arms, upper right

oil on oak panel

unframed: 63.5 x 52 cm.; 25 x 20½ in.

framed: 84.1 x 73 cm.; 33⅛ x 28¾ in.

Executed around 1625, this work depicts a member of the Van Egmond van de Nijenburg family, as indicated by the coat of arms in the top right corner. An old inscription of the reverse of the panel identifies the sitter as 'ISABELLA V. EGMOND / V. NIBORG', a name which does not appear recorded in the family's family tree. Given the date of execution and the sitter's age (around 20 years old), this portrait may instead depict Cornelia van Egmond van de Nijenburg, born in the first decade of the 17th century.
