Private collection.

Col M.H. Grant, A Chronological History of the Old English Landscape Painters, Leigh-On-Sea 1958, vol. 2, p. 90, no. 81, reproduced plate 40 (as attributed to Jean Rigaud).

Although formerly erroneously attributed to the French engraver Jean Rigaud (circa 1700–1754), this painting is actually a work by the Flemish born Peter Tillemans who specialised in outdoor views of this type. A corresponding landscape attributed to Tillemans, which is undoubtedly by the same hand as this work, is in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London.1
