Description

Rhodochrosite

Manuelita Mine, Morococha District, Yauli Province, Junín Department, Peru

10.8 x 6.20 x 3.80 cm (4¼ x 2½ x 1½ in). With custom acrylic base.

One of the most sought-after species of minerals by collectors, this visually pleasing double knob of soft pink, opaque rhodochrosite crystals comes from the Manuelita Mine northeast of Lima. Despite being a well known locality for such rosy specimens, Manuelita Mine has not produced specimens of this quality in close to a decade. Interestingly enough, although this rhodochrosite hails from Peru, its color is reminiscent of specimens that emerged from the Cavnic Mine in Romania, its type locality.
