Faden Quartz

Faden, the German word for "thread," describes the thin white zone that runs through the center of these groupings of otherwise clear quartz. Faden quartz is created by the incorporation of fluid and gas during repeated cracking and healing of the crystals over time, as they continue to grow within the fissures of the host rock.
