Description

Château d'Yquem 1961

Sauternes, 1er Grand Cru Classé

Good level, excellent appearance, tissue wrapped. New label, Château and vintage embossed metal capsule. Back label states "This bottle left Château d'Yquem's cellars in 2019"

This hot, dry year made it difficult for noble rot to develop so the harvest was late. A low yield, high alcohol wine. Kumquat and mandarins on the nose. A real tarry kickback to it. Deep oranges all through. The sweetness is drying up and the roasted element is taking over giving it a very individual character. Seize it now. Serena Sutcliffe, MW
