The present design derives from the upper section of the Memorial brass plaque of former abbess Marguerite d’Escornaix in the abbey of Sainte-Gertrude at Nivelles in Brabant, circa 1460. The Virgin and Child are enthroned in the memorial brass, but the throne is missing in the present plaque.
