framed: 32 by 29 ⅛ in.; 81.3 by 74.0 cm.

Reverend Francis Wilson, Armitage, by March 1872 (according to an inscription on the stretcher);

Arabella Duval Huntington (1851-1924), Pasadena;

By whose estate anonymously sold (Property from "a noted American Family of Art Collectors"), Pasadena, Curtis Gallery and Library, 1-3 December 1949 (as Jacob Ruysdael);

Private collection, United States, by 1997;

With Alfred Bader, 1998;

From whom acquired by the present collector.

This sylvan landscape, once attributed to the preeminent Dutch landscapist Jacob van Ruisdael, was more likely painted by a Flemish artist influenced by him.
