With Kunsthandel Katz, Dieren (inv. no. 5392, according to a label on the reverse of the panel and according to a card in the Goudstikker-Miedl archive);
From whom acquired by Alois Miedl, Kunsthandel Jacques Goudstikker, Amsterdam, 7 August 1940;
With Schantung Handels A.G, Berlin, 17 Aug 1940 - 15 July 1941;
With Alois Miedl, Kunstahndel Jacques Goudstikker, Amsterdam (all the above as Attributed to Rembrandt);
Possibly, sale, 1943, no. 239 (according to Ernst van de Wetering, see literature below, as part of the catalogue compiled in 1943 for the sale of the Goudstikker collection);
Acquired by the family of the current owner in the 1950s;
By descent to the current owner.

The present painting relates to a small portrait by Rembrandt in a private collection that was established in 2008 as the prime version after which several surviving copies are based.
A dendrochronology report from Dr. Peter Klein is available upon request stating a usage date of the panel from circa 1616 onwards.
