Parable of the vineyard: the payment of the laborers

canvas: 37 ⅛ by 46 ¾ in.; 94.3 by 118.7 cm.
The present composition derives from Andrea del Sarto's chiaroscuro fresco painted for the church of Santissima Annunziata in Florence. In 1879, the fresco was destroyed however it is known today through numerous copies and engravings, a black and white image taken in 1870, and a small fragment of the original preserved in the refectory of Ognissanti.1
This work comes from the same private California collection as the three Giandomenico Tiepolo works sold in January 2023.2
