This intimate work of private devotion was produced by a late-seventeenth or early-eighteenth-century painter working in the ambit of Carlo Maratta (or Maratti), an artist who brought a classicizing tendency to the Baroque. The composition of the present work also draws inspiration from Emilian artists, including Correggio and Parmigianino.
