Circle of Joachim Beuckelaer

A fishmonger selling fish at the market

oil on canvas

canvas: 42 ⅛ by 69 ¾ in.; 107 by 177.2 cm.

framed: 48 ⅛ by 75 ⅝ in.; 122.2 by 192.1 cm.

Anonymous sale, Paris, Tajan, 21 June 2006, lot 37 (as Studio of Joachim Beuckelaer, circa 1590).

This large painting appears to loosely follow, in reverse, a 1568 painting of a fish market by Joachim Beuckelaer in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (inv. no. 2015.146). In the past, this painting has been attributed to Beuckleaer's studio as well as to Jan Baptiste Saive the Elder (1540-1611), an artist strongly influenced by Beuckelaer.
