Rendered on this small panel is a half-length figure of a flaxen-haired young girl seated before a neutrally toned background. She wears a white blouse, an open blue vest, a light olive-green skirt, and a vibrant coral necklace. With her body facing one direction, she looks upward over her shoulder in the other direction, the flowing fabric of her skirt paralleling the twisting movement of her figure.

This panel was painted by an accomplished artist in Haarlem in the 1630s. In style, composition, and subject, the painting bears notable affinities with several artists active in Haarlem during this decade. These include Jan Miense Molenaer, Judith Leyster, and Dirck Hals, all names that have been proposed as this painting's possible author, although no attributional consensus has yet been reached.
