2006: Lovely fresh projection of wild herbs plus black and red fruit on the nose, with a whiff of vanilla. Totally opulent and mouth- filling, with great polished tannins and supremely healthy fruit. Cinnamon at the end - with that charming freshness too. In 2010, at dinner in Milan, just so fruity and tempting, and yet with real depth. Serena Sutcliffe, MW

2010: In 2023, a rich, plummy, ink and roses nose, plus intriguing ginger. Fresh attack on the palate from this late harvest. Beautifully healthy, crisp and perfectly defined. Very appetising and a super food wine, especially with meat sauces. A splash of chocolate and turmeric on the finish which is fascinating. Serena Sutcliffe, MW

2011: In 2023, a warm, scented, lush and welcoming nose - very Merlot. A lovely, rich-textured caress on the palate, with the freshness of the 'maritime' Maremma climate. The glycerol and red cherries are very strong - you feel you can bite into this voluptuous Merlot volume, with its full body and glossiness. Really impressive. Serena Sutcliffe, MW

“What is Masseto – above all, it is seductive opulence! With its deep, velvety, black cherries flavour and exotic chocolatey allure, Masseto is always exciting and a marvellous expression of luscious Merlot. You could call it noble perfection.”

Serena Sutcliffe, MW, Honorary Chairman, Sotheby’s Wine
