Description
Comprising: a spring-loaded openwork lorgnette set with old European- and rose-cut diamonds; a quizzing glass set with rose-cut diamonds highlighted with black enamel, on a seed pearl longchain, length 45 inches, missing 8 small diamonds; an openwork jabot pin set with onyx and old European- and rose-cut diamonds; and a round openwork brooch set with old European-, old mine- and single-cut diamonds; each circa 1910s.
This group of antique jewels includes a lorgnette and a magnifying glass, which Mary layered stylishly as pendants on diamond and pearl long chain necklaces. In later life, as her vision diminished due to diabetes, these pieces became functional as well and she wore them often.
