Elegant gem set and diamond bracelet, Van Cleef & Arpels, circa 1930
梵克雅寶寶石及鑽石手鏈，年份約1930
Designed as a series of carved emeralds and sapphires, enhanced with cabochon and circular-cut rubies, highlighted with millegrain-set brilliant-cut diamonds, length approximately 180mm, signed Van Cleef & Arpels, numbered, French maker's and assay mark for platinum.
The term Tutti Frutti often comes to mind for these very colourful pieces from the inter-war period, however, the name was in fact invented only in the 1970s and later registered by Cartier. The Roaring Twenties experienced a real craze for these jewels adorned with flowers and fruits, often decorated with carved rubies, sapphires and emeralds sourced from India, giving them the appearance of a “fruit salad” which is a name sometimes used by certain Parisian jewellery Maisons to describe these naturalistic and almost gourmand jewels.
