Unique and Exquisite fancy Vivid Yellow diamond, emerald and diamond ring, 'Kallima', Van Cleef & Arpels


Designed as a butterfly, featuring a pear-shaped fancy vivid yellow diamond weighing 5.43 carats, the wings mystery-set with calibré-cut emeralds, accented by brilliant-cut and baguette diamonds, signed Van Cleef & Arpels, numbered, partial maker's mark for Van Cleef & Arpels, French assay mark for gold, pouch stamped Van Cleef & Arpels.


Accompanied by GIA report no. 2135698104, dated 4 August 2011, stating that the diamond is Fancy Vivid Yellow, Natural Colour, SI1 Clarity; together with a Van Cleef & Arpels certificate of authenticity stating the piece to be a one-of-a-kind creation, dated 19 December 2012, and a copy of an insurance valuation, dated 15 September 2012, as well as an original sketch.

The name 'Kallima' derives from a genus of butterflies native to South-East Asia. Kallima butterflies are notable for the brightly coloured top surface of their wings. The bottom surface of the wings display more muted colours, allowing the butterflies to ward of predators by closing their wings to masquerade as far less tempting oak leaves.
