Fancy Green Diamonds

Fancy green diamonds of natural colour origin are the rarest and most highly sought-after gemstone. Their colour is caused either by exposure to naturally radioactive minerals and fluids in the earth’s crust, following emplacement, or by complex structural defects involving the trace elements nitrogen, hydrogen and nickel. Natural green diamonds make up only 0.07% of all diamonds submitted to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) over the last ten years, making their study particularly challenging.
