Two Kakiemon dishes

Edo period, late 17th century


the first a circular dish with foliate rim with indentations on a wide foot rim and three prunt feet, decorated in typical palette of yellow, blue, green, black and iron red enamels and underglaze blue, with a bird in the bowing branches of bamboo and plum blossom, the reverse with scattered floral blossoms; the second a circular dish on ring foot, decorated in iron red, blue, black and green enamels with a ho-o bird beside tree peony emerging from banded hedges, Johanneum mark N=10- to the base


14 cm., 5½ in. (the first)

21 cm., 8½ in. diam. (the second)
